15 Minute DIY Cloth Napkins

Getting going on my Halloween decorating and I decided that I needed some new dinner napkins. I have never had any so I hopped on over to my little homemade go to place, ETSY.

I found these on etsy and I loved them. But I thought...I have a TON of fabric scraps from other projects and they have got to be so simple to make.

So this is what I came up with...

Not to shabby for a free project, huh?!
Here are the instructions below.

DIY Napkin Tutorial

Supplies Needed:
Scrap fabric (pre-washed) 1 Yard
Scissors
Serger or Sewing Machine
Matching Thread
(makes 4 single sided dinner napkins)
1. Make sure you wash and dry your fabric before. I used some duct cloth fabric that was left over from an upholstery project. But I think that linen or cotton would work beautifully.

2. Cut your fabric into 4--17" x 17" squares.

3. Serge around each side of the napkins.

4. I used a 3-thread overlock stitch.

And there you go. The quickest and easiest dinner napkins of your life!
I absolutely love them and they were so easy! It seriously took me 15 min with my serger but even without one it won't take you more than 25 30 minutes.

I really love them. After I refinish my table this weekend and get those old nasty rings and scratches off they will look even better.

Eventually I will get to a table runner and some placemats but for right now I am happy.
And I don't have to use Bounty paper towels for napkins when guests come over anymore.

If you do not have a serger HERE is a good tutorial that looks pretty easy.

And there you have it.

If you like them go ahead and "pin" it into Pinterest. =)
Also...if you make some I would love to see what you came up with.
I already have fabric picked out to make some for Thanksgiving & Christmas.
Hahaha.

Enjoy!

Inspiring Room of the Week

Inspiring Room of the Week

Seriously...I can totally picture myself cooking in this kitchen.
Rustic, classic, and simplistic all rolled into one beautifully designed kitchen!

Couple of things I adore about this kitchen:
#1. White classic subway tiles.
#2. Rustic reclaimed beams overhead.
#3. Lanterns above the island...oh my goodness!
#4. Dark wood floors...YES!
#5. Neutral color palette.
#6. Lots of natural light.

(Sigh.......)

White Ceramic Owls: Who knew!?

Ok...has anyone else noticed that ceramic white owls are EVERYWHERE!?!?! Rugs, umbrella stands, lamps, wallpaper, salt and pepper shakers or any other home accessory.
I find myself liking them without knowing why? Is it because they are cute and vintage looking?

Well I did my research and came up with an answer as to WHY the fashion and design industry has taken to this whimsical creature. The owl has some seriously beautiful versatility. They can be serious, whimsical, cute or scary. I mean...what other animal can do that?

Here is a little history on the owl that I found in an article.
http://pinterest.com/search/?q=owl+vase

"Owls date back 60 million years and appear in the lore and mythology of almost every culture on earth. They can symbolize wisdom, protection, mysticism, secrets, death and birth. In ancient Greece, the owl was associated with Athena, goddess of wisdom, and it was believed owls could see in the dark because they possessed an inner light. Native Americans saw owls as secret keepers and weather predictors. With such a complexity of symbolism, it is no wonder owls have inspired artists throughout time."

I am not an animal lover but I can handle them in a ceramic white form of almost any kind. Here are some that I found in various places.

And here is my owl that I found at a garage sale for $1!
I gave him a little fresh spray of white paint and....VWALLA! My own little white ceramic owl. I actually LOVE him. Haha. =)  I have intentions for him to be in my bedroom but I think I will leave him out here until Halloween is over.

So what is your vote? Do you like ceramic white owls or not?

Getting in the Halloween Mode: Spooky but Classy

Halloween!!!
Its just around the corner. Ok...like a month away but still...I am getting inspiration for decor.
I have expressed my dislike for "cutesy" seasonal decor. I know that once the kid art starts POURING into my home I will have to make a space for that but right now I love having my holiday decor coordinate with my existing home decor. My husband thinks I am ridiculous but its just one of my things. Haha. But I thought I would share some inspiration and what I am going off of this year. =)

Hope you are inspired by all the fun and festive Halloween Decor.
It doesn't all have to be cute decor. =)
