French Style Chairs

So one thing you might not know about me is that I have the HUGE (I mean BIG) love of classical chairs. Why do you ask? Because they are timeless and work so well with almost ANYTHING. I love mixing old with new and elegant with edgy. And my all time favorites are the French Style Bergère and Fauteuil.

A little lesson on the difference...

A Bergère ("the shepherdess chair") has an enclosed upholstered armrest and usually has a deeper wider seat than a Fauteuil.

A Fauteuil is almost the same chair but usually has an upholstered back, seat and arms with the arm area open and exposed.

So now that I have taught you the difference in the two chairs here are a few of my favorites. I need them in my forever house one day. =)  If you ever want to add instant elegance and status to a room throw one of these in there.

All of these chairs can be found on my Pinterest account if you want to follow me. =)

Sorry about being MIA...

Sorry about being MIA for the last week. Turns out I got in a little wreck and so I have been dealing with that this week.

I have also been really preoccupied with this little guy too...he has been very needy lately. But I don't mind most of the time. I can you resist his sweet face!?

Stay tuned for exciting posts next week. I will be revealing my living room and we have Tip Tuesday coming up again.

Designer Tip Tuesday: Devani from Savvy Classic

I am so excited about todays "Designer Tip". Devani is amazing and I actually met her in design school where she taught my class on Historic Architecture and Design. This girl knows her stuff! Here is her tip for us today...

Hello friends-I'm Devanie Roberts from Savvy Classic and I'm honored that Kayla has invited me to bring you today's Designer Tip Tuesday!

When I talk to people that aren't designers they often say things to me like "I wish I was more creative" or "Where can I begin? I'm overwhelmed with how much I want to do but I have a small budget." My tip to anyone who has asks these questions is to start small. What's a more perfect place than your closet? Who doesn't want to feel like a glamour goddess every time you're deciding what to wear? I know I'd be excited to wake up every morning and open the doors to my own little Chic Boutique!

This walk-in wonderland is sophisticated and whimsical in one little package. The black and white feature wall makes a bold statement without overwhelming the space. I love the 3/4 height hook-mounted chair rail for a place to hang accessories and maybe even to plan your next day's outfit. The vintage suitcases add an extra pop of pattern and color and of course a beautiful storage solution (perhaps a place to store out-of-season clothing). And while it may not be the case, the chandelier still announces to you, "check out your designer wardrobe, girl!"

If you're not yet blessed with walk-in real estate, try something like this cheery double-door space. You'll feel like Marie-Antoinette, minus the awkward attendants watching you get dressed! This solution is simple- you could do what is shown here by using a large print wallpaper throughout, or make it a little easier on yourself and paint the inside walls and only wallpaper the door panels. You could even put some photos of cute outfits you've found in magazines as inspiration. Go crazy- you're the goddess here!

If you just so happen to be one of the people who has extra storage and doesn't need every closet in your house for clothes, why not open up your room by creating a home office niche? My wise and beautiful Mother turned hers into a sewing space- it's her own divine domain! So take my advice and find a small space where you can express yourself in a big way!

Thanks so much for taking the time to give us a little tip, Devani! Make sure you check out her blog. It is a good one to follow. =)

Staircase Storage Ideas

So one part of my job that I especially love is figuring out clever storage for small rooms and homes. I am constantly looking for clever ways to disguise storage or display it rather than throwing it in a plastic bin and putting it under the bed. So I found these ingenious ideas for storage under staircases. Most homes have a set of stairs but the space underneath is never utilized  as much as it could be. Here are some of my favorites.

Inspiration for "Inspiration Boards"

So I am doing some organizing and rearranging. My personal paperwork, business paperwork, and my husbands school paperwork is overtaking my desk and is so unorganized. I have swatches and inspirational photos EVERYWHERE! Time to organize. So on Pinterest I found some great ideas for my inspiration boards I need for my office area....

I LOVE LOVE LOVE everything about this little office. But I like how they have framed the boards on the wall like art. Perfect! Exactly what I want...

So simple and fun. Its amazing what you can do with scrapbook paper, wood and mod podge. =)

I love the natural fabric backed on these boards.

What a good idea?! So fun.
But I think these are my favorite! I love how simple and clean they are. Now all I need is an office...=)

A first time wreck and some Etsy Love...

So yesterday was an eventful day. I went shopping and on my way back home I got in a wreck! My very first one!   {BOOOO!!!}
It was not bad and I didn't get hit very hard at all but of course it messed up my car super bad! UGH! My son was in the back seat asleep and it didn't even wake him up. Haha. =)

So as I was sitting there I tried to get a few things done like...come up with a blog post, pay bills on my phone, make phone calls, and clean out my car while trying to keep my mind off the insurance rate that is going to go up! Haha...

I found all these car prints on Etsy. I think these would be so fun for a little boy's room or Nursery.

Client Mini Spa

Recently I had a client come to me and help her design a little mini spa. I had so much fun with this project for some reason...the blues and greens and soothingness of everything.

Considerations for this space:
-It is a very small room-about 10x10
-Needed lots of storage and counter space but we only had one wall to do it on. So the cabinetry had to be custom.
-She wanted the area to be light, airy and comfortable.
-She also needed a display area for her products that she will be selling.
-Not to mention some rolling carts, a bed, and a sitting area.

That is a lot to put into a little room. But I think we pulled it off. =)

We went with the fun glass tile backsplash and white cabinetry to keep the space light and a little more contemporary.

I also found this leaning shelf which is perfect for the space. It is easy to move and doesn't stick out as far as a regular bookshelf.

My very favorite item for the room though are the botanical prints I found on etsy. LOVE THEM! They are perfect for the space.

I am pretty sure I would be super relaxed in this little mini spa!

Designer Tip Tuesday: Nancy Marcus Design

Today's Designer Tip Tuesday comes from one of my favorites. Nancy from Marcus Design is such a talented designer not to mention she has a great blog! Here is her little tip for the week.

Thanks for guest posting over at LeBaron Interiors Nancy!

Hello lovely readers of Lebaron Interiors! I am excited to be visiting today, thank you to Kayla for inviting me!! My Designer Tip for today is to have at least one black element to ground every room. Black grounds a space while white and light colors give relief. Of course, the glamour that comes from touches of black are an added bonus :)

Thanks for having me Kayla!

Sizing up your kids... lately I have been looking for the perfect growth chart for my kids that can move around with me since we are not in our "forever" home. I looked on etsy and found these amazing growth charts! Seriously some people just never cease to amaze me at how talented they are. Even when it is something so simple as a growth chart! What a cute addition to a kids room...=)
